The Seine quays, a new promenade
Returned to pedestrians after the commercial port moved on, the left-bank quays stretch from Saint-Sever station to the Gustave-Flaubert bridge. People run here, dance on summer evenings and drink facing the barges. L’Armada, a great gathering of tall ships from around the world, is held here every four to five years. An ideal path, on foot or by bike, to extend the evening by the water.
Sainte-Catherine hill and Panorama XXL
On the right bank, Sainte-Catherine hill rises gently and offers Rouen’s great viewpoint: the old city appears in full, cathedral at the centre, Seine at its feet. In town, Panorama XXL, a pavilion of immersive circular exhibitions, portrays landscapes of the world. Two ways, both uplifting, to gain perspective on the city while drawing closer.
Joan of Arc and city gardens
In the centre, the Joan of Arc Historial, in the former archbishop’s palace, traces the Maid of Orléans’ life through a staged route. For fresh air, the botanical garden, south of the Seine, lines up glasshouses and themed beds. On Lyad, members from Rouen share their favourite viewpoints; it is up to you to find someone to admire the city with.
